Vega’s mission and work focus on making music education accessible to students. Over the past decade, Vega has provided more than 30,000 students with the opportunity to participate in music and art education programs across Minnesota. We believe that students benefit tremendously from quality music and art education and that music and art are integral parts of a whole curriculum.
We pursue this mission in a few ways:
Instruments in the Cloud: In early 2015, Vega created Instruments in the Cloud, an online giving platform that makes it easy for people to donate musical instruments directly to school music programs in need. The site provides a wishlist feature where teachers can quickly create an online registry for musical instruments they need for their classroom. By making their lists available, teachers create a dynamic database of need and allow potential donors to respond to a music program’s specific need for an instrument.
Minnesota Musical Instrument Drives: Vega partners with school music programs and community partners to gather, repair, and prepare the instruments.
Make Music Twin Cities: In 2016, Vega worked with an enthusiastic and dedicated group of volunteers to launch Make Music Twin Cities, a day-long, metro area-wide, free music festival that takes place on June 21st – the summer solstice. Musicians of all ages, abilities & backgrounds are encouraged to take part, and community members across a multitude of backgrounds and musical tastes are able to vividly experience a range of musical genres, in their own neighborhoods and backyards throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
